V sign in corneal transplantation

This video demonstrates the "V" sign during penetrating keratoplasty. The "V" sign occurs when the needle passes at 99% depth on the host cornea. Because descemet's membrane is elastic, it travels with the needle forming a V until the suture is passed and the V is released. Observing the V during surgery ensures that one is a the correct depth when passing sutures during corneal transplantation.
